A well-known developer of mobile applications for nurses and clinicians in the hospital setting has launched a platform designed to help administrators manage mobile devices throughout the building or campus.

Voalté, based in Sarasota, Fla., is teaming up with AirWatch, an Atlanta-based developer of smartphone security and mobile device management solutions, to launch Voalté Connect, giving administrators a platform to deploy, use and scale MDM solutions for enterprise-wide deployments.

“Introducing updates, data and configuration settings for all types of mobile devices through Voalté Connect allows hospitals to better control and protect their data as well as greatly reduce cost and risk,” said Trey Lauderdale, vice president of innovation at Voalté, in a press release. “This is essential for data and device security.”

Voalté’s smartphone solution is designed to allow clinicians to send and receive presence-based text messages, make phone calls using the hospital’s VoIP system and receive critical care alarms on their iPhones. Through Voalté Connect, the company will be able to manage all hospital-owned and personal mobile devices, such as smartphones, laptops and tablets.

“Providing a turn-key management solution allows the hospital to conserve their IT department resources, yet gives them the ability to monitor and control the hospital’s sensitive information that resides on these devices,” Lauderdale added.

AirWatch recently released a new HTML5-based platform, giving users more access from any Web-connected device, regardless of the platform or operating system. Company officials say this is especially useful in the healthcare sector, which is seeing an influx of iPads, tablets and other mobile devices.

“AirWatch has developed a consistent pattern of technology innovation," said John Marshall, the company’s CEO, in a separate press release. "Upgrading AirWatch to HTML5 allows us to further ensure the user experience is more productive, meaningful and efficient. This new release is further evidence of our continued commitment to providing the industry's most innovative MDM and mobile security technology.”
