Residents of two senior care complexes in California will soon have access to home health monitoring tools in a new study to test the benefits of telehealth on seniors and their caregivers.

Intel-GE Care Innovations has announced a partnership with the Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing, which will connect seniors at Kingsley Manor in Los Angeles and Claremont Manor in Claremont with the company's Health Harmony remote patient monitoring platform.

“Health Harmony gives Front Porch a way to extend the care continuum directly to their residents while also supporting the independence they strive to deliver every day,” Sean Slovenski, CEO of Care Innovations, said in a press release. “As the aging population continues to grow, it’s important that senior living communities are part of efforts to help people live healthier lives at a more sustainable cost.”

Using the Health Harmony platform, seniors will track such vital signs as blood glucose, blood pressure, weight and oxygen levels, conduct daily health assessments and connect with caregivers to manage care plans. The platform also enables those caregivers to amend care plans and manage medication adherence, while chatting with the patient via video link.

“Front Porch and Care Innovations share a common vision of technology-enabled care to help the aging population live well and remain healthy wherever they call home,” Kari Olson, president of the Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing, added in the press release. “Our partnership with Care Innovations opens opportunities for our communities to become more deeply involved in helping residents manage their health with new models of care in a way that meets their specific needs.”
