The Personal Connected Health Alliance is getting into gaming.
The global non-profit launched this past year by mHealth News parent company HIMSS, the mHealth Summit and the Continua Alliance has announced a partnership with Games for Health, which focuses on games and gaming technology in health. The deal will give the Robert Wood Johnson-supported organization a more active role and larger presence at the 2015 mHealth Summit, as well as the HIMSS16 Annual Conference.
Launched in 2004 by Ben Sawyer and Beth Bryant with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Games for Health "is the leading professional community in the field of health games, bringing together thought leaders, innovators and health technology companies focused on advancing game technologies that improve health and the delivery of healthcare," officials said in a press release.
"Gaming technology is playing an increasing role in care delivery and the management of health and wellness," Richard Scarfo, The PCHA's vice president and director of the mHealth Summit, said in the release. "Our strategic partnership with Games for Health compliments PCHA's support of the full continuum of technology-driven health and wellness. Gaming technology is becoming an important addition to social media, wearables and mobile health, as well as an adjunct to clinical care management."
"Partnering with HIMSS and the Personal Connected Health Alliance is a major milestone for our community, placing us on a global stage at the mHealth Summit," added Bryant, now president of the Games for Health Project, in the release. "This year we are bringing together thought-leaders, innovators and clinical experts to advance game technologies and the gaming community."
This year's mHealth Summit, taking place Nov. 8-11 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center just outside Washington D.C., will once again feature the Games for Health University, a daylong tutorial examining how and why games are integral to the healthcare delivery landscape of the future. In addition, Games for Health will be featured in the Connected Health Pavilion, offering interactive exhibits with the latest in gaming technology and games designed to improve health and healthcare, as seen from both the consumer and the provider.
Games for Health will also be featured in the Connected Patient Gallery at HIMSS16, scheduled for Feb. 29-March 4 in Las Vegas.
