Personal health records may not be catching on as quickly as their advocates would hope, but one segment of the population clearly benefits from having them – those with chronic or serious illnesses or diseases.
With that in mind, MedeFile International of Boca Raton, Fla., has signed an agreement with ConnectCare3 to offer the company’s Internet-enabled PHR to ConnectCare3’s patients and employees.
CC3, which was launched in 2008 and is based in Lititz, Pa., offers assistance to companies encompassing more than 50,000 employees, including school districts, colleges, county governments, nursing homes and private-sector businesses in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. The service is deigned to help people with chronic or serious illnesses, who deal with a number of different healthcare providers and specialists on a regular basis, to find the best treatment options, doctors and facilities.
MedeFile’s products include medevault data storage services, the mededrive portable PHR, the medemobile platform for remote access via smartphones and other devices, and medeminder messaging services.
“Over 100 million people in the U.S. are living with chronic diseases and illnesses that subject them to complex treatment plans administered by numerous physicians and care specialists," said Douglas Shand, CC3’s vice president of sales and marketing. "Without the ability to view multiple records on an individual from multiple places where they are created, clinicians have an incomplete view of the available information that could well influence diagnosis, prevention of drug-to-drug interaction and effective treatment. Since improving the coordination of care of patients in order to optimize outcomes and quality of care is one of CC3’s core imperatives, we believed it was essential to integrate an effective personal health record solution into our service platform.”
“In addition to its ease-of-use and intuitive web interface, MedeFile is highly differentiated from their competition because they do all the work for the patient,” Shand added. “They collect, digitize, maintain and regularly request record updates from its members’ care providers, helping to ensure that each patient has a comprehensive, accurate and secure compilation of records and vital health information. After assessing a wide range of PHRs on the market, it became evident to us that both CC3 and MedeFile share the same commitment to superior patient-centric service and attention – making them the ideal partner for us.”
Through the agreement, CC3 will purchase a number of premium memberships and offer MedeFile’s PHRs and MedeFile Lite PHR subscriptions to corporate clients as a value-added benefit for employees. MedeFile will also receive a monthly fee per member from all CC3 clients who enroll in the MedeFile Lite program.
