The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is hosting the Sixth Annual National Health IT Week Sept. 12-16, 2011 in Washington, DC.

HIMSS officials bill the event as “a collaborative forum, where public and private healthcare constituents can work in partnership to educate industry and policy stakeholders on the value of health IT for the U.S. healthcare system.”

According to HIMSS, comprehensive healthcare reform is not possible without system-wide adoption of health information technology to improve the quality of healthcare delivery, increase patient safety, decrease medical errors, and strengthen the interaction between patients and healthcare providers.

Activities in the past for this event have included policy briefings, technology demonstrations and networking events. This year will include much of the same. To see an agenda of this year’s events, visit the National Health IT Week 2011 website here.
