Dr. Nele Jessel, chief medical officer at Athenahealth, discusses how bringing behavioral health tools, such as telehealth, into the primary care setting can improve access to services and reduce the stigma around mental health conditions.  

The acquisition also gives American Well access to a handful of major provider and payer customers.

First announced in January, the behavioral telehealth provider's fundraise is set to expand its provider network as well as its market presence.

The funding, an undisclosed sum, will be used for growing the company's telepsychiatry network and developing HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms.
