Allscripts has named a panel of seven judges for its Open App Challenge, with 15 finalists set to be unveiled at the 2013 HIMSS Conference and Exposition next month in New Orleans.

The Chicago-based HIT giant has challenged mobile app developers to "start a revolution" by designing and integrating applications to extend the Allscripts Open EHR software. Company officials said 217 participants took part in Phase I of the challenge, with 98 submissions set for review.

Some of the submissions, officials said, target tools to improve diabetes management, while others take on patient scheduling, end-of-life planning, safety net facility information and sample medication management. The 15 Phase I winners will be announced at 3 p.m. CT on Monday, March 4, at the Allscripts booth.
